Animal abuse cases are always heartbreaking, but some are truly unimaginable. A recent case in Nebraska has left animal lovers outraged: a dog was found abandoned in a dumpster with his head completely wrapped in duct tape. The Nebraska Humane Society (NHS) is now seeking justice for this innocent pet.
Dog Found in Dumpster With Muzzle Sealed Shut
On April 15, Animal Control officers responded to a disturbing call after a concerned citizen heard strange noises from a dumpster. Initially believing it to be a raccoon, they were horrified to find a small dog with its head, tail, and legs tightly bound in duct tape.
Kevin Wiederin, an NHS staff member, described the horrifying scene:
“The entire muzzle was taped shut, his eyes were covered, and his legs were bound together. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was sickening.”
To make matters worse, the dumpster was scheduled for pickup within 30 minutes, meaning this dog could have been crushed if rescuers hadn’t arrived in time.
Dog Rescued and Identified Through Microchip
The dog was immediately taken to the Nebraska Humane Society, where veterinarians sedated him and carefully removed the layers of duct tape. Underneath, he was found to have mild skin irritation but was otherwise in good health.
Thanks to a microchip, the dog was identified as Leo, who had gone missing a few days earlier. His owner, Erin Dillon-Pasillas, had been frantically searching for him.
“Every day was more stressful… I was shaking, hoping it was my dog,” Erin said.
Despite the trauma, Leo is now safe and recovering with his loving owner.
Reward Offered for Information on Animal Abuser
The Nebraska Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in this shocking animal cruelty case. Unfortunately, there were no security cameras near the dumpster, making it harder to track down the perpetrator.

Animal Abuse Laws and The Importance of Microchipping
This shocking case of animal cruelty highlights the need for stronger animal welfare laws and the importance of microchipping pets. Without Leo’s microchip, he may have never been reunited with his family.
