Neurofibromatosis type 1 triggers the growth of benign tumors wherever nerves are present in the body. For Libby, this has resulted in severe physical and emotional hardships. The tumors intensified after her pregnancy 23 years ago, multiplying to thousands. On top of the physical pain, Libby endured relentless bullying. Cruel nicknames like “toad” and “lizard breath” became a regular part of her life, leading to feelings of isolation and anguish.
Despite the emotional and physical toll, Libby never let her condition define her. Determined to improve her quality of life, she launched a fundraiser in 2016, aiming to undergo a life-changing procedure known as electrodessication surgery. This groundbreaking treatment removes tumors while reducing the likelihood of regrowth.

In June 2017, Libby underwent the surgery, which successfully removed 1,000 tumors from her face and body at a cost of $23,500. Although the procedure left scars, it marked the beginning of a remarkable transformation. Libby followed up with CO2 laser treatments to reduce scarring, further boosting her confidence.
